The Northeast Food and Drug Officials Association (NEFDOA) provides a forum for regulators, industry and other interested parties to discuss regional, national and international food safety and security issues, and the uniform promotion and provision of effective public health and consumer protection services. Furthermore, NEFDOA offers training opportunities, annual educational conferences, and disseminates food safety and security information.

During the AFDO Conference June 6-10 2009 At the Wiley Award Banquet on Tuesday June 9 Al Bugenhagen NEFDOA Program Chair received the most prestigious award presented by AFDO, the Harvey W Wiley Award. This award is presented to a regular or honorary member for exceptional service to the state or union in the performance of duties, and responsibilities in the administration and enforcement of food, and drug law and/or consumer protection laws and demonstrated promotion of the objectives of AFDO. This award could not have gone to a more deserving person; Al is a great guy and a hard worker for both NEFDOA and AFDO. Congratulations Al.
As a side note, Al is the 3rd NEFDOA member in 4 years to receive this award, the other two winners being Terry Macaig in 2006 and Gene Blake in 2007
Steve Stich Assistant Director NYS Dept of Agriculture and Markets has been appointed by the AFDO Board of Directors to the position of Director at Large through June 30th filling a seat vacated by Dr Jeff Farrar.

Tetter, Executive Director of Ontario Operations for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Ontario, Cananda, was this year's recipient fo NEFDOA's prestigious Eaton E Smith Award.
